We had a short outage early this morning at 4 AM GMT due to some malformed feeds from a single blog (which will remain unamed). This problem has been fixed.

Starting at 7 PM GMT we are experiencing an outage due to issues with the backend provider. No ETA for a fix at this time.

Short Outage

We had a short outage in the wee hours of Sunday morning due to some posts getting too large (specifically Haveil Havalim #73). We reduced the post preview to 1000 characters and everything is back to normal now.

PodCast Feature

With the addition of the Sameach Music Podcast which is the first podcast added to the site, we added an extra icon to indicate podcasts. The icon looks as follows:

It will appear to the left of any post that has an attached podcast (the icon was made by Tim Madden and licensed under CC Attribution License).

New Features

We have added some small features :

A new RSS feed that only has the last 25 headlines
You can now put the list of headlines on your own site
You can also put a list of all blog sources on your own site
Source lists refresh immideatly

And last but note least:

The front page now reloads automatically in your browser every 15 minutes! That means that you can leave your browser window open to JBlogSphere.net all day long and still get the latest headlines!

P.S. We now have a total of 104 blogs and over 400 hits in four days.

Update Delays

We are currently experiencing delays updating posts on the front page and RSS feeds (subscription list is uneffected). At the time of writing this delay is stretching to as much as six hours. This issue is caused by the service which aggregates and provides the combined feed data to our site. There is currently no ETA on a solution (but we hope it will not be longer than a few hours).

Please stay tuned as we update the situation here…

UPDATE: At 18:13 GMT things seem to be back to normal. We will watch this for a bit longer to make sure it all right.

Our Third Day

It’s been three days since our official launch and things have been great! We now have 99 blogs syndicating through our site and several members of the J-Blogosphere have mentioned us (thank you SerandEz, Elder of Zion, Soccer Dad and Chaim). We have also added some small enhancements:

Links open in a new window
The RSS feed is smaller
Amazon ads are being displayed in addition to Google ads
FAQ and ToDo pages have been added

Issues with RSS Feed

We are currently experiencing problems with the main JBlogsphere.Net RSS feed which provides all the posts that appear on our front page (not the feed for this blog). The problem is that the feed is … too large! Due to overwhelming response, we now have over 60 j-blogs in our system. However, many of these publish full articles instead of summaries in their feeds. We are currently tinkering around to see if we can use only a portion of each post in the RSS feed while still keeping the full content for the main page.

UPDATE:� For now, the RSS feed will only contain the first 200 characters of each post, until we can get it fixed. Sorry

JBlogSphere.Net is Launched!

Welcome to our new site. JBlogSphere.net is an aggregator of Jewish and Israeli blogs from all over the web. We started this site after we found that other aggregators did not provide what we wanted, so we wrote our own! Here are some of the suprising features you will not find elsewhere:

Preview of posts available from the main page by hovering over the entry
Full content of main page is available in a RSS feed for your convenience
Full list of all sources available as OPML
Page refreshed every 15 minutes
Direct links to sources and source posts (helping to raise their ratings on search engines and blog indexes)

We are still building this site so expect more features. Meanwhile, feel free to drop us a line or even add your own blog.
